Left fielder Ian Desmond introduced through Instagram on Sunday that he has determined to choose out of the 2021 marketing campaign to spend time together with his household.
“Over the previous few months, I’ve had powerful conversations,” Desmond wrote in an Instagram story. “I’ve requested lots of questions and executed lots of pondering. For now, I’ve determined to choose out of the 2021 season. My want to be with my household is bigger than my want to return and play baseball underneath these circumstances. I’ll proceed to coach and watch how issues unfold.”
The 35-year-old additionally opted out of the pandemic-shortened season on account of COVID-19 issues and cited systemic racism points in Main League Baseball as one more reason for deciding to not play.
Desmond was set to earn $8 million in 2021. The Rockies have a $15 million membership choice on him for 2022 with a $2 million buyout.
